Welcome to Jellied Salad

Here at Jellied Salad I’m going to be living in the past to discover what life was like in a time of austerity and food shortages, where people had to rely upon food banks and the generosity of strangers just to feed their families. Or should I say what life *is* like? I’ll be guided by Patsy, a cartoon-strip character created by the Daily Mirror in 1946 with the aim of patronising young women and reinforcing their role as subservient home makers. It’s great that things have changed; or have they? Join me in my adventure as I find out how different Britain really is in 2015.
